How silver-fiber shielding works

From yarn to finished garment, the science behind every Proteck'd piece.

Why silver

Silver is one of the most electrically conductive materials available, which is why we knit it into the base fiber rather than coating fabric with it after the fact. A coating can flake, crack or wash away. A fiber that is silver from the inside out keeps performing wash after wash, provided it is cared for properly.

Shielding effectiveness is not the same across every frequency or every source. That is why we test each fabric batch rather than relying on a single certification claim, and why we are upfront that no garment eliminates EMF exposure entirely. What it does is reduce the exposure you get from nearby devices, household wiring and wireless signals, as one part of a broader approach to lowering your everyday exposure.

Common questions about the fabric

Is the silver fiber coated or woven in?

Woven in. Pure silver thread is knit into the base fiber, not applied as a surface coating.

Does washing reduce shielding over time?

Following our Care guide helps the fabric keep its tested shielding properties over repeated washes.

Can I see the test results?

We test every fabric batch for attenuation before it becomes a garment. Contact us if you would like details on a specific product.
