Caring for your shielding apparel
How to wash and store silver-fiber fabric so it keeps protecting.
Wash and dry
Cold, gentle wash
Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle, inside out, with similar colors.
Skip the bleach
Avoid bleach and fabric softener, which can degrade the silver fiber over time.
Air dry when possible
Lay flat or hang to dry. If you must machine dry, use the lowest heat setting.
Why care matters here
Our shielding fiber is woven into the fabric itself, so it does not flake off the way a surface coating would. That said, high heat and harsh detergents can still degrade any fine metal fiber over time.
Following the steps above helps your piece keep its tested shielding properties for as long as possible. Store folded or on a hanger away from direct heat sources, and avoid ironing directly on panels that contain silver fiber.
Care questions
Can I dry clean my Proteck'd pieces?
We recommend cold machine washing instead. If you must dry clean, ask the cleaner to avoid high heat and harsh solvents.
Will shielding wear out eventually?
With proper care, shielding fiber is built to last through regular wear and washing, but like any fabric it will gradually show normal wear over years of use.
